"Even children in America love cars. Some of them make their own cars and have a race called a soap box derby." (p.14)   Many unique cultures are written in this book. For example, dog surfing, demolition derby, frog jumping, and eating competition. They are very unique and crazy, but some of them have long history, so I was surprised about them. I thought these events are very popular because American people like very dynamic shows. Kocienda, G. (2014). Only in America, Cambridge, Cambridge University Press.

I came here to learn about the Antarctic- I’m not interested in Amundsen, or in races!’     In the summer of 1910, a black ship, the Terra Nova sailed from London. Robert Falcon Scott was the captain of this ship, and they were going to the South Pole. They would be the first men at the South Pole if they arrived there. However, after that,  Ronald Amundsen who is a Norwegian explorer competed with this. He said he will win the race of South Pole. Scott got upset when he heard about this because his object was research, not the arriving the South Pole itself. Consequently, they competed each other, and who will be the first person who has arrived at the South Pole? Vicary, T. (1992). The Coldest Place on Earth. Oxford University Press
